2 police officers suspended in Ahmednagar district
Mumbai, Mar 14: Two police officers of Ahmednagar district had been suspended following failure to discharge duty and alleged assault of a woman in January this year, Maharashtra Home minister R R Patil informed the legislative council today.
Replying to a query by Shiv Sena member Dr Nilam Gohre that a woman was assaulted by police officers who refused to register FIR against accused persons, Mr Patil said he had given orders to suspend both the officers and initiated an inquiry into case.
Ms Gohre said a 19-year woman was on way to Shirdi from Pune alongwith her husband. On the way, she was kidnapped by anti social elements and forced into the flash trade. When she went to Ahmednagar police to lodge complaint against accused persons, the officer refused to registere FIR and assaulted her.
Mr Patil said an order has already been given to suspend them, and stern action would be taken against the culprits.
The government has also decided to conduct awareness workshop under the guidance of advocates, who have conducted trial in women related crimes.
Mr Patil admitted that government has received two reports of Justice Dharmadhikari committee, "we are waiting for third report,after receiving that report, the government will be able to decide on implementation of recommendation made by the committee," he added.
