CA high performance manager says sacked Oz players were given plenty of warnings
Sydney, Mar 12 : Cricket Australia (CA) high performance manager Pat Howard has claimed the sacked quartet of Shane Watson, James Pattinson, Usman Khawaja and Mitchell Johnson were given plenty of warning before being eventually sacked for the third Test match against India in Mohali over disciplinary breach.
Howard claimed vice-captain Watson behaves like a team player only sometimes, adding he knows the all rounder well, the Herald Sun reports.
Watson's future is now in limbo after the he quit the tour of India and is considering retiring from international cricket.
Howard addressed the sackings this afternoon, saying the quartet's failure to respond to a peer review of the side's dismal performance in the second Test was the latest in a list of misdemeanors by the Australian players, the paper reported.
Howard said they have been dealing with small issues that any organization has been, adding you can only get your last chance so many times.
Howard added this is the straw that broke the camel's back, and at some stage unfortunately you've got to make a call, adding there were plenty of warnings.
Howard would not go into detail about what the other player misdemeanors were but said CA would not take a situation as trivial as this in isolation and deal such a harsh punishment to the players, the paper added.
Howard also said there had been many examples of players not doing what they've been asked to do, whether that is for the coaches, the selectors right down to PR requirements.
