Melbourne, Mar. 11 : Ricky Ponting is reportedly the mystery purchaser, who bought a 10 million dollar mansion on the Golden Mile of Brighton in Melbourne.

The 1920s Edwardian on St Ninians Road was previously owned by Jeffrey Hunter - owner of Hunter Products that supplies toys, sporting and leisure equipment to many of Australia's largest retailers.

According to industry sources, the former Australian captain has been hunting for a property for months in the Brighton area- also home to legendary Shane Warne and girlfriend Elizabeth Hurley, the Age reported.

The Shandford estate that is protected by large wrought iron gates and a 7-camera security system, has seven bedrooms, billiards room, library, marble fireplace, theatre, pool, full-size tennis court and a private access laneway to the beach.

Agents JP Dixon had listed the sprawling mansion for about 12 million dollars.

Ponting and his wife Rianna own a waterfront mansion in the Sydney suburb of Burraneer, which they bought for 3.8 million dollars in 2004 and refurbished.
