VHP seeks monthly salary for temple priests

Tiruchirapalli, Mar 4 : The Village Temple Priests Federation and the Tamil Nadu unit of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have urged the state government to sanction monthly remuneration and pension of Rs 4,000 for village temples priests.

In a release here today, VHP's International Vice President S Vedantham and state VHP General Secretary R R Gopaliji said a resolution to his effect was adopted at the concluding session of the two-day state Hindu Renaissance

Conference organised here jointly by the VHP, which concluded here last night.

The conference also urged the state government to end the practice of issuing tickets for special 'darshan' in temples that was under the control of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, department.

It also demanded that the Government ban transport of cows to neighbouring states like Kerala for slaughtering and set up cow protection centres 'gosolas' across the state.
