Murder convicts assault deputy warden of prison in Firozabad
Firozabad, Mar 4 : The depleting condition of law and order in Uttar Pradesh resurfaced on Monday after 13 murder convicts physically assaulted the deputy warden of a prison in Firozabad.
The incident happened only a day after Uttar Pradesh's food and civil supplies minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya was accused in the murder of a deputy superintendent of police.
According to the prison authorities in Firozabad district of Uttar Pradesh, India's most populous state, the 13 convicts, charged with murder called a constable and ordered him to get some things from outside the prison.
After the constable refused, the convicts abused him and physically assaulted him. When the deputy warden of the prison, K. K. Mishra tried to intervene he was also assaulted.
"Thirteen murder convicts called a constable and ordered him to get some things from outside. When refused, they abused him and physically assaulted him. The deputy warden of the prison, K. K. Mishra tried to intervene in the matter, but he was also beaten up by the convicts. Reinforcements were called in and all the 13 convicts were then shifted to different cells," said S. R. Yadav, warden of the prison.
The Samajwadi Party came back to power in Uttar Pradesh last year, invigorated by the campaigning of Akhilesh Yadav, the current chief minister of the state.
