Carbon monoxide kills 11 in China coal mine
Beijing, Mar 1 : Carbon monoxide poisoning killed 11 people after an air compressor caught fire in a coal mine in north China's Hebei province, officials said Friday.
Two miners are missing since the accident occurred Thursday night at a coal mine in Huailai county, Xinhua reported.
Thirteen miners were working underground at the time of the accident.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
The mine belongs to Zhangkuang Group, a subsidiary of the Jizhong Energy Group Co. Ltd.
The general manager of Zhangkuang has been removed from his post following the incident.
Further punishments will be meted out at the conclusion of an investigation, an official said.
