Kiran Bedi praises Union Budget
New Delhi, Feb 28 : Former top cop turned social activist Kiran Bedi praised the Union Budget 2013-14 presented by Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the Parliament on Thursday.
"Three Cheers! Mr FM," Bedi tweeted.
"Focus on Skills Dev (development). And job creation. Covers all sections of society! Excellent," she said.
Chidambaram on Thursday presenting the Union Budget 2013-14 in Parliament said there is no revision in the tax slabs, but introduced a surcharge for those earning above Rs 1 crore and a tax credit of Rs 2000 for the basic tax slab.
Juxtaposing economic welfare with the economic policy, the Minister said that the link between policy and welfare can be expressed in a few words: opportunities, education, skills, jobs and incomes.
He said the Budget has before it one overarching goal - to create opportunities for the youth to acquire education and skills that will get them decent jobs or self-employment that will bring them adequate incomes that will enable them to live with their families in a safe and secure environment.
The Budget sets a target of skilling 90 lakh people in 2013-14, for which funds will be released by the National Rural Livelihood Mission and National Urban Livelihood Mission.
