JAC announces fifth edition of Journalism Awards

By Gourab Gupta, Kolkata, Feb 28 : A Journalism Awards Committee (JAC) here of Monday announced the fifth edition of the H and G Clinic Journalism Awards, 2012.

The awards are going to be conferred upon the scribes of West Bengal to acknowledge their hard work and talent.

Present on the occasion were the members of the Journalism Awards Committee, veteran journalists, Jayanta Sarkar, Manojit Mitra and photo journalist Subrata Patronobis.

Besides the committee members the Director of Sneha Group of Companies the flagship company of H&G Clinic, Aryan De and Station Head of Red FM Jimmy Tangree were also present.

The fifth edition of the event invites entries from journalists of Bengal from of Feb 26, 2013 to Mar 25, 2013.

The total numbers of awards are 20, all of which having a cash reward of Rs 15,000, while the Lifetime Achievement Award has a cash award of Rs 25,000.

In addition to that a memento and Certificate of Honor will be issued by the Journalism Awards Committee.

The Red FM Bajate Raho award has been introduced for the first time, honouring the journalists, who dare to make a difference in the society or in someone's life through their piece of writing.

Thew news materials should have been published between Jan 1, 2012 and Dec 31, 2012.

An individual print media journalist can send entries of their best three articles or news coverages with the caption details and details of names and date of publication on the basis of their own evaluation and discretion.

Admitting the hurdles of journalism, Jayanta Sarkar said, "These awards are given to recognize the spirit of journalism."

The photo journalists can send a maximum of 4 entries with the caption details and date of publication in CD (Jpeg/Tiff format) with a 300 DPI resolution. Minimum size of each photograph must be 1800 * 1200 pixels, not more than 3 MB. The photos could be mailed through www.candidcommunication.net.

Subrata Patronobis said, " Last year we had 500 entries of photographs. This year we want it to get doubled at 1,000 entries at least."

The electronic media journalists can send a maximum of 3 entries on a CD/DVD. Manojit Mitra said, "It's just a feather in the cap of the press of Kolkata."

On the induction of Bajate Raho Awards, Jimmy Tangree said, "Bajate Raho Award is to be given for a difference that a particular article makes."

The nominations can be submitted at candidjournalism@gmail.com. A panel of judges chosen by the members of the Journalism Awards Committee will further screen the entries to choose the winner from each category.

The award ceremony will be held at Rangamanch, Swabhumi onof Apr 14, 2013. In the ceremony the names of the winners will be announced.
