Mumbai, Feb 27 : The BSE Sensex rose 0.72 percent on Wednesday as underperforming blue chip stocks recovered a day ahead of the union budget.
The 30-share benchmark index ended 137.27 points higher at 19,152.41 with 22 of its components closings in the green.
The broader 50-share National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty index ended 0.62 percent or 35.55 points lower at 5,796.90 on Wednesday.
Bargain buying helped lift downbeat stocks while a U.S. Federal Reserve comment stoked sentiment worldwide.
Meanwhile on the New Delhi bullion market, gold advanced by Rs 150 to Rs 30,330 per 10 grams while silver gained Rs 150 to Rs 55,600 per kg.
