"Committed to ensure justice to Lankan Tamils"
New Delhi, Feb 27 : External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid on Wednesday said India is committed to ensure justice to Tamils in Sri Lanka.
"I reiterate the commitment of government to see the end of hostilities in Sri Lanka," Khurshid said during a debate on the Sri Lankan war crimes in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
"We are totally, utterly, committed to an outcome which will give justice to Tamil people of Sri Lanka," he said.
He, however, said the country would not directly intervene in the sovereign affairs of the neighbouring nation.
Dissatisfied with Khurshid's reply to the debate, members of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) staged a walk out from the House.
The issue of Sri Lankan war crimes was re-ignited recently after photos of the alleged cold-blooded killing of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) chief Velupillai Prabhakaran's 12-year-old son came to light.
