Assam: 2 injured in grenade explosion
By Hemanta Kumar Nath, Guwahati, Feb 26 : Two security personnel were injured in a grenade blast, while in a sep security forces recovered a Chinese hand grenade and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in two separate incidents in Assam on Tuesday, officials said.
Two security personnel were injured in a powerful grenade explosion in Assam's Jorhat district on the wee hours of Tuesday.
The explosion took place at Kenduguri area in the district around 4.30 am on Tuesday.
"A suspected militant hurled the grenade at an Assam police checking post," a top police official said.
"When four security personnel ordered a suspected militant to stop at the checking post, the militant hurled the grenade targeting the security personnel and managed to flee from the area taking advantage of darkness," the police said.
In the explosion, two security personnel named Keshab Gogoi and Bolin Sonowal were injured and were rushed to Jorhat Medical College Hospital.
Security forces recovered a Chinese hand grenade, one magazine of AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds live ammunition near the blast site.
In a separate incident, a powerful IED was recovered in front of the main gate of Nunmati Oil Refinery in Guwahati on Tuesday.
"The IED was hiden in a bag, which was found in front of the main gate of the refinery," Guwahati City SP Ranjan Bhuyan said.
Later, a bomb squad of army defused the IED.
On February 24, security forces recovered an IED near the railway tracks at Makum in Tinsukia district.
