By Gourab Gupta, Kolkata, Feb 21 : In a college-corporate tie-up project in the field of training and vocational development in the automotive industry in India, Volkswagen is all set to grow in the automobile market in terms of providing strong service support post-sales.
Automotive giant Volkswagen has joined hands with JIS Group Educational Initiatives, the largest educational conglomerate in Eastern India, to set up Volkswagen Group Academy here.
This is first such venture in Eastern India where the academy would provide knowledge of technology of after sales service to the dealers.
Addressing the media here, Director of Volkswagen Group, Dietmar Hildebrandt, on Thursday said, "The academy will provide technical and non-technical training solutions to the company's service brands and the channel partners. Training would be imparted in many areas which include sales, after-sales, soft skills, IT, mechatronics, skill contests and skill mapping."
He said, "This academy would act as the main centre for all the training programmes conducted by the Volkswagen Group in the Eastern part of India."
Director of JIS Group, Alok Kumar Das, said on the occasion, "Volkswagen has set up a full-fledged Group Service Training Academy in the Dr. Sudhir Chandra Sur Degree Engineering College campus (a unit of JIS Group Educational Initiatives), which will enhance the quality of automobile engineers graduating from it."
"Volkswagen has two plants at Pune and Aurangabad. The head office is situated in Mumbai. The company has 220 dealerships in the country," Dietmar clarified.
"The academy would specialize in training. It is over an area of 6,000 sq. ft. with practice areas, classrooms, and other office areas," said Taranjit Singh, MD, JIS Group.
The academy has been opened to provide efficient knowledge primarily to the dealers. But on later stage, it will also teach students of the engineering departments. The college has roughly 1200 students in 6 streams.
The academy has a capacity to train around 1,000 participants every year, who would be provided training of programmes for over 2-10 days. It has two classrooms for theory sessions and has two practice areas where practice sessions would be conducted.
