Ahmedabad. Feb 21 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Indian Police Service (IPS) officer GL Singhal in connection to the Ishrat Jahan encounter case of 2004.
Singhal was the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in 2004 when the incident occurred.
He was named in magistrate SP Tamang's report that had said the encounter was fake.
Ishrat was gunned down by Gujarat Police along with Javed Ghulam Sheikh alias Pranesh Kumar Pillai, Amjad Ali alias Rajkumar Akbar Ali Rana and Jisan Johar Abdul Gani in Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004.
The Gujarat Police had claimed that the four were on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
