By Soumyajit Majumder, Kolkata, Feb 21 : Wills Lifestyle, the premium lifestyle brand of the country announced the seventh edition of 'The Debut' here in Kolkata on Tuesday.
"'The Debut', as the name suggests is a unique platform that nurtures and recognises young talent in the field of fashion designing", said Atul Chand, Division Chief Executive, ITC's Lifestyle Retailing Business.
The contest saw a more than 340 entries received from all over the country from various fashion institutes including National Institute
of Fashion Technology (NIFT), National Institute of Design (NID), Pearl Academy and others, but only 38 were selected for the regional
The first regional round kicked off in Kolkata where 10 participants showcased their talents on the theme 'Retro Revolution' in front of eminent fashion designers like Mona, Pali and Kiran Uttam Ghosh. Rinit Singh faculty member, NIFT was also present to judge the Kolkata rounds along with the other three designers.
Anuj Mishra, Radhika Pashar, Gaurav Kumar and Priyanka Maharana made it to the finals which will be held just before the Wills Lifestyle
India Fashion Week.
The regional rounds will also take place in Mumbai and Bangalore scheduled to be held in the last week of this month.
The comic strip inspired collection by Radhika Pashar was well appreciated among the judges and was somewhat different from the others.
While talking to IBNS Radhika, a student of NIFT Kolkata said," The dresses I made is actually inspired by my favourite superhero Spiderman, I always love bright colours so my dresses are a blend of two with keeping in mind the theme of the day."
On this occasion Kiran Uttam Ghosh said, "In our times we did not have any kind of media and had to do whatever we felt like, but today with
the advent of media world fashion is available at a single click and thus it gives a well exposure to the upcoming designers."
