Jaisalmer, Feb 21 : : The 11th edition of country's most thrilling motorsport rallies, Maruti Suzuki Desert Storm entered Jaisalmer Wednesday, after completing its second leg.
The rally completed its second leg after an arduous journey through the jagged desert terrain enroute Jaisalmer from Bikaner. The total kilometers covered in this leg of the journey was 448.
The rally garnered a lot of attention from on-lookers as they passed through towns such as Jamsar, Siwani, Rajasar, Pilap, Bajju, Girandi and finally, Pabusar.
The rally this year has ten women participants participating in the Ndure and Xplore categories. Crowd favorite and last year's champion Suresh Rana from Team Maruti emerged victorious in the first leg of the rally followed by Lohit Urs and Sunny Sidhu in the second and third place respectively. Raj Singh Rathore of Team Polaris is currently leading the Motoquad category.
Covering a total distance of 2200 kms, the rally will culminate at Jaipur on 23rd Feb 2013. This year the rally has 5 competitive legs of this two are night stages. This tests the participants on their capability in night rallying. The Desert Storm has been spread across four categories- Xtreme, Motosquad, Ndure and Xplore.
The rally follows the TSD (Time, Speed and Distance) model and it is open to all cars of any make and model. It is however, mandatory for the person behind the wheels to have a valid driver's license.
