BPCL-Kochi, KSEB Thiruvananathapuram clinch titles in volleyball games

Kannur, Kerala, Feb 17 : Reigning champions BPCL- Kochi anddefending champions KSEB -Thiruvananathapuram lifted the titles inthe men's and women's section respectively in the finals at Payyanur Municipal stadium (flood light) here today for the Sky

Gold state inter-club volley championship for T Govindhan memorial trophy and 18 th Pappan memorial trophy.

International players Tiji Raju and Tom Joseph were selected as the best players in women's and men's section respectively.

In the women's final, KSEB beat St Joseph College, Irinjalakuda in straight sets 3-0 (25-16,25-11,25-18) in 63 minutes. The team game of KSEB skipper M S Alphonsa, setter Sruthimol and internationals Jomol, Tiji Raju and P V Sheela helped the winners for an easy game, while St Joseph showed little resistance from their side.

In the pool- A league match also KSEB downed St Joseph college by 3-0 (25-19, 25-19 and 25-16). In semi finals, played the previous day ,St Joseph beat Kerala police by 3-2 (16-25,25-22,22-25,25-22,15-11) and KSEB enters the final by defeating SAI-Thalassery by 4-1 (25-15,23-25,25-22 and 25-18).

In the Men's final , BPCL defeated Kerala Police by 3-1 (25-22,25-19,22-25 25-16) in 93 minutes. More experienced and accomplished BPCL palyers Tom joseph, E K Kishorekumar, R Rajeev

and Rohith's smashes and blocks helped a win over the rivals, However, Kerala police stunned BPCL in the third set through a

tough game and lifted the set by 25-22 with the team play of Shaji mon, Hafeel and Manu.

In the semifinals played the previous day, Kerala police beat Cochin Port trust by 3-2 ( 25-18,21-25,22-25,25-23,15-12) and BPCL beat KSEB by 3-2 (24-26,17-25,25-23,28-26,15-11)

Union minister of state for civil aviation, K C Venugopal gave
away the prizes.
