Kochi, Feb 16 : Kerala Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob today informed that the Supplyco would open 12 new Maveli Medical Stores by the end of this financial year itself.
Of the 12, six would be under the Ernakulam region, while four and under Kottayam and one each in Kozhikode and Palakkad Regions would be open by March 31, he said in a release here today.
Stating that there were 90 Maveli Stores functioning in the state, he said the total turnover registered from these stores stood at Rs 5.19 crore as against Rs 4.67 crore earned in the previous financial year.
The government had taken a decision to open over 20 Maveli Stores in Palakkad and Kozhikode Regions, he said and added that it was expecting that the space for opening Maveli Stores would be identified with the cooperation of Local Self Government bodies.
Claiming that medicines being sold through the Maveli Medical Stores were 12 per cent to 50 per cent less than the open market, Mr Anoop said the BPL card holders would get another 25 per cent discount.
