Kannur, Kerala, Feb 16 : A group of Civil Engineering (CE) students of the Government college of Engineering, Kannur have created a record today by constructing a two-story building completely made of concrete in a day.
This unique project was presented in a national level technological and cultural fest 'Explore-13' at college campus.
The project is the first of its kind in the country, claimed Nithin Manohar and Aswanth, final years CE students.
Talking to UNI, Mr Manohar said the erection of building and assembling begin at 1040 hrs and would be completed before 2200 hrs today. Seventy per cent of construction was completed at 1900 hrs and only fixing the wall, floor and roof panels works was pending and this would completed before 2200 hrs.
The floor made of ferro cement. All the components are made of pre fabricated concrete only, fully caste by the students them selves. First they fitted the foundation beam in a pit about one meter depth and column pillars and beam with the support of JCB for lifting only from the ground level. All the beam and pillars, panels are construct by the students few days back and today they connected the plinth beam and pillars and joint with steel bolts (Nut and bolts).
The total area of the two story building is 260 square feet and 5.5 height with a room size of 3.4 metre and the budget cost is around 3 lakhs. Cements, Chemical, sand, slabs are made with ferro cement for reinforcement wire mes ha , 16 mm and 8 mm steels are used for making pillars and panels and it was make under concrete modules. The slabs are paneled in nature and are
cast using ferro cement which never been experimented construction field so far, said Mr Manohar.
