Govt. committed towards rapid expansion of power sector, says Scindia

New Delhi, Feb 13 : Union Minister of State for Power (Independent charge) Jyotiraditya Scindia on Wednesday said that the Government is committed towards sustainable development and rapid expansion of the physical infrastructure in general and the power sector in particular.

Inaugurating the International Operation and Maintenance (O and M) Conference here on the theme "Sustainable Growth-Strategies for Fuel and Efficiency", Scindia said that we have to be proactive to provide electricity at a competitive price. So going beyond excellence will be the norm rather than exception in coming days.

Scindia said that it is a matter of pride for us to remember that on this very day, the 13th February 1982, NTPC Ltd. commenced electricity production from its first unit of 200 MW at Singrauli.

NTPC projects Korba, Talcher Thermal and NTPC Faridabad were awarded for excellence in operational practices based Business Excellence model by Scindia.

Speaking on the occasion Arup Roy Choudhury CMD, NTPC informed that the vintage unit is presently operating at 93 percent PLF with an availability of 100 percent , and said that operational practices of NTPC are benchmark in the sector as the organization believes in encouraging innovative practices.

"NTPC presently operates a capacity of 39674 MW and plans to become 128GW company by the year 2032 with well diversified fuel mix," he added.

The aim of the conference is to reinforce the power major's commitment to make a difference on an organisational level and endeavour to capture contemporary challenges and future scenarios.

NTPC organises this prestigious event every year on this day to commemorate the synchronisation of its first unit in 1982.
