Three-way tie at Haryana Open Golf
Gurgaon, Feb 13 : Former Sri Lankan Open Amateur champion Simarjeet Singh shot a superb 69 to share the lead with overnight leader Udayan Mane and Syed Saqib Ahmed at the end of the half-way stage of the Tata Steel Haryana Open Golf Championship being played at the Golden Greens Golf Club here on Wednesday.
Udayan added a 73 to his overnight 69 while Saqib shot an even par for a two-round total of 2-under 142.
The trio were just ahead by a shot from Varun Parmar who brought in the best card of the day with a simmering 5-under 67. Karan Taunk was tied for fifth place along with Trishul Chinnappa at even par 144.
Arshad Ali and Viraj Madappa shared the seventh place at 146 while L Selvadurai and Harimohan formed the rear of the top-ten at 147.
Simarjeet played some flawless golf on his front nine when he made three birdies on the fifth, seventh and eighth to take the turn at 3-under and was soon 4-under after making his fourth birdie of the day on the 11th. However a bogey on the 16th ruined his chances of becoming the sole leader.
"I have been playing well since the last six months. I had a bit of bad luck yesterday but I left all that behind and focused myself to keep the ball in play today," said the Oil India employee.
Saqib meanwhile made two birdies on the first and finishing hole of the course and topped with an eagle on the par-5 ninth but gave away as many shots on to end up with a level par round.
"I was playing well but back to back bogeys on the 4th and 5th spoiled my rhythm," said the lad from Bangalore.
Saqib's citymate Udayan's card was as eventful as his opening round. Beginning from the 10th, Udayan shot five birdies (16th, 17th, 4th, 5th and 9th) but eventually ended up losing more shots than he saved.
"The course was playing a bit easy today. I could have gone low but a few mistakes did me in," admitted Udayan.
With the players bundled together, the last two rounds promise an exciting finish to the this first leg of the Tata Steel Amateur Golf Tour's 2013 season.
