Offie Rassol's 7-45 sends Aussies crashing to 241:warm up game
Chennai, Feb 12 : Australia had the mortification of seing their first IPL million dollar player, all rounder Glenn Maxwell beginning his tour to India with a duck as the Kangaroos struggled to 241 making Board Presidents XI's off spinner Parvez Rassol look devastating in his 7 for 45 spell at stumps on the first day of their two day warm up game here today.
At the picturesque Gurunanak College ground, there was plenty of action out in the middle as the Aussies won the toss and batted first with the objective of getting into the 'nick'.
Maxwell, who was at the wicket for just eight balls fell to medium pacer Stewart Binny-former India all rounder Roger Binnyu's son, though.
But after left hander Ed Cowan, who top scored with 58 off 109 balls (eight fours and a six) and Usman Khawaja(32) gave the team a bright start putting on 77 runs, Khawaja fell to the other spinner Laddoo while Cowan became Rassol's first victim, caught behind by former India stumper Parthiv Patel after lunch.
Then the Aussies kept losing wickets regularly after lunch, at which time they were 81-1. Captain and wicket keeper Mathew Wade appeared to be sttling down for a big score but he fell to Rassol too, clean bowled(35, 100 m, one foru, two sixes), Steve Smith held on for 41 off wuth three fours before Rassol got rid of him too caught at mid off. All rounder Henrique(16) fell to the other sinner S Ladda. Peter Siddle(22), J Pattinson(1), Jackson Bird, (0) and new comer in the team A Agar(0) could not tame Rassol. N Lyon remined unbeten on 12 off 21 balls.
The Board President's will have to score 242 runs tomorrow to deprive the Aussies the chance of victory as the game is only of one innings.
