Chennai, Feb 12 : DMK President and Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today appealed to the State Government to increase the amount of relief announced for Cauvery Delta Farmers from Rs 15,000 per acre for crop loss due to drought besides finalising the assistance for drought-hit farmers of non-delta districts.

In a release here, Mr Karunanidhi claimed the amount of assistance announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had already caused divisions among the Cauvery delta ryots.

To add to this, she failed to announce any relief to farmers of non-delta districts exacerbating the inequity among the ryots further, he claimed.

The ryots now feel cheated due to the inequity in compensation and also non-announcement of any relief to the drought hit farmers in other districts of Tamil Nadu, Mr Karunanidhi claimed and sought increase in the amount of compensation to the delta farmers besides announcing relief to the farmers of other drought-hit districts in the State.
