Perambalur, Feb 12 : A lower court convicted a 45-year-old man for sexually assaulting 29-year-old physically challenged woman, here today.
According to prosecution, the accused Sankar alias Harikaran of Thenur village invited the victim to his house under the pretext that his wife wanted to see her. When the victim went to his house the accused sexually assaulted her on January 27, 2010.
Based on the complaint from victim's mother, police arrested the accuse and filed rape charges against him before Judicial Magistrate Court. Subsequently the case was transferred to Principal District and session court, and the case once again was transferred to Mahila court.
Ms Poornima, Judge of the Mahila Court, observed that the crime against the accused was proved beyond reasonable doubt and awarded ten years imprisonment and another one year imprisonment for life threat against the victim.
The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on accused and if he failed to remit the fine, to undergo one more year imprisonment. The sentence could run concurrently, the judge added.
