Kochi, Feb 12 : Pointing out that the situation of unemployment and privatisation was similar across the world, World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) General Secretary George Mavrikos today said his organisation was initiating struggle against this.
Participating in a meet-the-press programme at the press club here, Mr George, who is in the city in connection with the 27th All India Bank Employees conference here, said "we know all the situation in all countries, it is not very different for unemployment and privatisation."
Stating that the situation of international organisations were not good for working class, he said his organisation was taking initiatives to support the working class all over the world.
Disclosing that situation Greece, from where he belongs, was not different from other parts of the world in terms of unemployment because of the IMA, World bank and EU policies, he said according to the official figure over 27 per cent of people were unemployed in his country.
Informing that the figure would cross over 30 per cent unofficially, he said the most affected groups in this regard was women and new generation.
Salary, social security, health and pensions were affected badly, the trade union leader said, adding the trade unions in the country had initiated agitations against it.
