Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 12 : The Kerala Assembly was adjourned today when two women MLAs entered the Well of the House, demanding action against the police officials who allegedly manhandled the MLAs.
The MLAs, Ms E S Bijimol and Ms Geetha Gopi, began a sit-in dharna in the Well, when Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan raised the issue.
He alleged that the women MLAs were manhandled when they staged a protest march in front of the Assembly demanding re-probe into the Suryanelli rape case in which Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurian was allegedly involved.
Home Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said the Government had already ordered a judicial inquiry into the incident. The women MLAs did not mention the name of police officials involved in the act, the Minister added.
He also sought the cooperation of Opposition to sit and watch the visuals of the police action, in which the MLAs were allegedly manhandled.
However, the MLAs said they would continue the protest till action is taken by the Government.
When other MLAs joined with the women MLAs, the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.
