PMK Chief condoles acid attack victim's death

Chennai, Feb 12 : PMK Founder S Ramadoss today condoled the death of software engineer Vinothini, who died here after battling hard for three months following an acid attack, and wanted the government to treat it as a rarest of rare case and provide exemplary punishment to the culprit.

In a statement here, he described it as a barbaric act and said the real tribute to be paid to the victim was that stringent punishment should be given to the accused that would act as a deterrent to those indulging in atrocities against women.

Recalling the statement given by the victim demanding exemplary punishment to the accused, who had thrown acid on her face during Diwali after she spurned his love affair, Dr Ramadoss said "this should be treated as a rarest of rare case and the government should take steps to provide exemplary punishment to the accused, who was responsible for her death."

Observing that her family was in financial distress after spending huge sums of money on her education and treatment, the PMK Chief said the State government should provide an assistance of Rs ten lakh to her family and provide all other assistance under humanitarian grounds.

Dr Ramdoss also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
