Kancheepuram, Feb 12 : A fire broke out mysteriously in a state-owned bus parked inside the terminus here late last night and spread to adjoining buses destroying four vehicles in the process.

Police said here today, the busy Kancheepuram Bus Terminus was usually packed with buses, private and state-owned, for operating, parking and repairing purposes.

The buses are usually cleaned and parked inside the terminus overnight.

Late last night, a fire broke out in one of the state-owned buses parked near a small temple inside the bus terminus.

Soon, the flames spread and engulfed three more buses. The inferno virtually made it impossible for the employees to douse and soon over 20 fire tenders rushed and put out the flames.

Immmediately, the staff drove out the other vehicles from the bus terminus preventing a catastrophe.

SP Xavier Raj rushed to the spot along with senior officers and made enquiries.

Parts from the four badly damaged buses were taken to Chennai for forensic examination to find out if it was an act of the miscreants, police said.
