Jaipur, Feb 12 : The Rajasthan High Court today issued notices to the State Government, the State OBCs Commission and others in a petition filed against the move of reservation quota to the special backward class.
The court division bench comprising Chief Justice Amitav Roy and Justice Dr Meena V Gombar issued notices to the state through the Chief Secretary, State Social Empowerment Department, the OBC commission, the Institute of Development Studies(IDS) on the petition filed by the Samta Andolan Samiti.
The State Government has recently extended five per cent quota to Gujjars and four other most backward castes under special backward class category on report from the OBC commission that had made recommendations based on quantified data survey made by IDS.
However, the High Court had already stayed implementation of the government order on a petition filed by some citizen.
In the new petition, the petitioner Samta Andolan has prayed for court order for provision of five per cent quota to special backward class within the OBC quota and review of the reservation system for making it caste census oriented and economic and poverty status based.
The petitioners also wanted to lower the upper ceiling of the reservation quota.
