CPI(M) demand high level inquiry into chopper scam
Lucknow, Feb 12 : CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat today demanded a high level probe into the corruption and embezzlement in relation to alleged bribes given to the officials in the country for purchasing 12 AgustaWestland helicopters in 2012.
"Now the Indian government should not wait for a moment to order a probe when the Italian police have arrested the chief executive of aerospace and defence giant Finmeccanica for the pay off," he told media persons here.
The CPI(M) leader also demanded an immediate removal of P J Kurian, deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha before the start of the budget session of Parliament. " Kurian should be immediately remove from the post otherwise the Left Parties would stage demonstration in Parliament," he said.
The Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha, has been accused by a rape survivor in Kerala of assaulting her when she was a school girl. In 1996 Suryanelli rape case, the victim says 42 men raped her in 40 days; though the Supreme Court has exonerated Mr Kurien, she says he was among her attackers.
Reacting sharply on the allegation of CBI prosecuter conniving with the 2G scam accused, Mr Karat said that a thorough enquire should also be done to punish the guilty people.
