Dhar, MP, Feb 12 : As both Hindus and Muslims remained adamant to perform 'puja' and to offer 'namaz' on Friday on the occasion of 'Basant Panchami' at historical Bhojshala here, the Archaeological survey of India (ASI) today granted permission to perform puja on Thursday and Friday while Muslims are allowed to offer namaz from 1300 to 1500 hrs on Friday, official sources said.
The ASI issued the order in view of prevailing dispute between the two communities as the Hindus wanted to perform puja throughout the day on Friday and the Muslims were also demanding to offer namaz.
Meanwhile, amid tight security, thousands of Hindus performed regular worship at Bhojshala this morning. The district administration removed fencing that was put up earlier to regulate crowd at the disputed structure last night.
The administration also deployed a large number of police force to maintain peace on Basant Panchami and senior police officers are given responsibility to tackle any eventuality, the sources said, adding that a flag march was taken out in the main thoroughfares here this afternoon to instill confidence among the people.
Tension prevailed at Bhojshala on Tuesday last week after activists of Hindu Jagran Manch and Bhoj Utsav Samiti tried to remove fencing put up by the district administration at the disputed structure.
