BJP demands judicial probe in Allahabad tragedy
Lucknow, Feb 12 : The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today sought a probe into the Mahakumbh stampede incident from a sitting High Court judge.
"The sitting Justice of the High Court should be handed over the investigation into the matter rather than giving it to the Revenue Board Chairman," UP BJP president Laxmikant Vajpayee said after returning from his short-trip to Allahabad.
It is a sad incident, hence no politics should be done on it, he asserted. However, but both the Centre and the state governments were blaming each other to save their own skin, he added.
The CM is defending his officials, hence its investigation by any official of the state government would not held much importance, the BJP state unit president alleged.
He claimed that the BJP workers have donated blood to the injured and were providing the maximum assistance they can give to the devotees.
The stampede at Allahabad railway station on February 10 claimed 36 lives and left several others injured. The toll today reached 37 with the death of one more devotee. An estimated three crore devotees had taken holy dip at Sangam on the occasion of 'Mauni Amawasya' at Mahakumbh.
