Moga, Feb 12 : Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh today asked Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal as to where all the Akalis had gone as he had started "digging for diamonds" in the Congress.
Mr Badal had recently stated that a large number of Congress leaders were keen to join the SAD but he was "digging for diamonds among the stones."
Addressing a series of election meetings in various villages of Moga assembly ahead of the February 23 bypoll, Capt Amarinder claimed that most of the Akalis had either retreated or refused to campaign for SAD candidate Joginderpal Jain. Hence, Mr Badal was finding it difficult to get support of workers from within his own party and therefore searching for people in the Congress.
"No matter how many diamonds he steals from Congress nothing can save Jain from an imminent defeat," he said and added that the Akalis had started fearing defeat much earlier than expected.
The Punjab Congress chief said Mr Badal was desperate and frustrated as his workers were not coming out to support a turncoat like Mr Jain and now he was trying to use the blackmailing tactics against his own workers by threatening them with bringing people from outside.
Mr Jain was elected to the state assembly on the Congress ticket from Moga in the assembly elections last year. He resigned recently and joined the SAD which made him the party candidate for the bypoll.
