Biharsharif, Feb 12 : Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today reiterated his demand for according world heritage status to remains of ancient Nalanda University.
Addressing a meeting of consultative parliamentary committee of External Affairs at Rajgir, Mr Kumar said ancient Nalanda University was world famous and seat of knowledge and wisdom. A large number of students used to come for study in Nalanda University in quest of knowledge.
'Remains of ancient Nalanda University still attract tourists from not only all parts of the country but also abroad,' the Chief Minister said adding it had rich historical importance and should be well conserved and maintained.
'The Centre should approach UNESCO for declaring remains of ancient Nalanda University as world heritage,' Mr Kumar said and added that there would not be any difficulty getting declared world heritage, the remains of Nalanda University if sincere effort was made by the Centre.
The Chief Minister said the new venture of reestablishing Nalanda University was an ambitious project of External Affairs Ministry and it would get completed without any obstruction as External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid was taking keen interest in it.
