WBSTC introduces ferry service between Howrah and Ariadaha

Barrackpore, Feb 12 : West Bengal Surface Transport Corporation, a state government undertaking, today introduced a ferry service in the Ganges between Howrah and Ariadahs near Dakshineshwar.

The service was ceremonially launched at the Ariadahs Ferry Ghat by state transport minister Madan Mitra.

Mr Mitra said to ease movement on the busy B T road, the state government had planned to introduce such water communication so that the city and Howrah station bound commuters could avail this service while the launch would make a stop over at Belur and Bagbazar in between Ariadaha and Howrah.

Presently, the service will be available twice-- 8 am and 8 pm. Frequency of services could be increased subject to rush of commuters , Mr Mitra added.

He also said the state had also planned to introduce speed boat service with 25 to 30 passengers between the city and Barrackpore in near future along with private entrepreneurs.

Corporation's managing director Ashish Thakur and Howrah legislator Sultan Singh were among others present on the occasion.
