Shinde to discuss GTA, coastal security with Mamata
Kolkata, Feb 12 : Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will arrive here on February 19 to discuss with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and state's coastal security.
Official sources said a special plane from New Delhi carrying Mr Shinde would land at the NSCBI airport here in the morning of next Thursday.
According to Writers' Buildings sources, the Chief Minister had telephoned Mr Shinde yesterday to invite him to visit the state which the latter accepted.
Besides discussing the Darjeeling situation with Ms Banerjee post the 'newer' demand of Gorkhaland from GTA chief Bimal Gurung and others, he would visit the Sunderbans to review the coastal security.
Mr Shinde is also likely to inaugurate a 'flood shelter' in South 24 Parganas.
Incidentally, the Union Home Minister was present at the swearing-in of the GTA in Darjeeling along with the Chief Minister.
The Calcutta High Court recently questioned the 'constititional validity' of the GTA and a constitutional amendment was necessary to legalise the regional council.
