Bhubaneswar,Feb 12 : Odisha government is contemplating to build a prototype of the world famous Sun temple listed as World heritage monument, at Konark very soon.
Odisha Tourism and Culture Minister Maheswar Mohanty said the need for the construction of a model of the Sun Temple to sensitise the coming generation about the architenctural expertise of the Odisha artisans for posterity as the present temple might be lost in oblivion in next 50 or one hundred years.
The decision to construct another Sun templel was throughly discussed at a meeting here today.
The officials of the ASI showed the design of the existing temple.
Though nothing has been finalised, Mr Mohanty said the construction of the model temple might take around ten years.
The model would be constructed by the side of the present temple.
A final decision on the construction of the temple would be taken after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved the proposal, the minister said.
Padma Bibhushan awardee and noted sculptor Raghunath Mohapatra who has been insisting for the construction of a replica of the Sun temple was among others present at the meeting.
