New Delhi, Feb 12 : The standard bidding documents (SBDs) for auctioning of power plants are ready and awaiting clearance from an Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM), Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya Scindia said Tuesday.
"We are waiting for a date from EGoM to clear it," Scindia said referring to new bidding norms for Case II auctioning at a conference here on power organised by industry body CII.
In Case-II type of bidding, a captive coal block is clubbed along with the power station for sourcing fuel.
The SBDs would speed up the process of awarding three 4,000 MW ultra mega power projects (UMPP) each in Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
Scindia said there is currently a 10 percent shortage in domestic coal supply. He expected state-run NTPC to sign the fuel supply agreement (FSA) with Coal India by the end of next month.
NTPC along with some other power companies is yet to sign the FSAs owing to differences with Coal India about the agreement clauses.
The minister was hopeful about the FSAs being signed soon.
"Hope all FSAs to facilitate 60,000 MW of capacity are signed within three months," he said.
On power tariff, the minister said distribution companies (discoms) should work to reduce transmission and distribution losses to ensure that tariff hikes are minimal.
