Gurgaon, Feb 12 : It was a day of the Bangaloreans as Udayan Mane grabbed the opening day's honours when he shot a 3-under par 69 in the Tata Steel Haryana Open Amateur Golf Championship being played at the Golden Green Golf Club here on Tuesday.
City mate Syed Saqib Ahmed was lying second at 2-under 70.
Hemendra Chaurdhary and Viraj Madappa occupied the third position while as many as six players - Hemendra Chaudhary, Viraj Madappa; 73 Gagan Verma, Harimohan Singh, Arjun Sharma, Manu Gandas, Trishul Chinnappa and Simarjeet Singh were tied for the fifth place at 73.
Udayan who lives in Bangalore just for golfing reasons and doing a correspondence course from Mumbai where his parents are based had a most eventful round shooting four birdies and two eagles while incurring three bogeys and one double.
Beginning from the first, the 21-year-old was 6-under after 11 holes with birdies on 1st, 2nd, 7th and ninth and an eagle on the 11th. However, poor shot game where he could not make up and down from close range cost him dearly.
Although he sank couple of long putts, he three-putted on three holes and lost out on making a big number.
"I cannot complain about my score but I could have done better. It is a tough course but I was sailing through my first 11 holes before my short game gave way," said the leader after the round.
The Tata Steel Haryana Open Amateur Golf Championship forms the first leg of the 11-leg Tata Steel IGU Amateur Golf Tour.
