New Delhi, Feb 11 : The government will provided Rs.100 crore to give a leg-up to 500 community radio stations which were proposed to be set up by the end of 2017, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Manish Tewari said Monday.
Under the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17), the government had proposed to set up 500 community radio stations.
While Rs.90 crore had been earmarked for financial support to these stations, the remaining Rs.10 crore were for training, capacity building and awareness activities, he said.
He was speaking at the 3rd National Community Radio Sammelan here.
Tewari said a "road map" would be prepared to provide assistance for operating community radio stations.
