Upsets galore at National Tennis Series
Hyderabad, Feb 8 : Stunning upsets were the order of the day at the Empire Meadows National Series Tennis Tournament at SAAP Tennis Complex in Lal Bahadur Stadium here today.
Three of the four top seeds were shown the door in their respective semifinal clashes to make the event an exciting one in terms of surprise winners.
Mihika Yadav from Maharashtra, Sinha Nitin Kumar of West Bengal and Himani Mor of Haryana, seeded one in the Under-14 girls, Under-14 boys and Under-16 girls categories perished in the semifinals against Zeel Desai (Gujarat), Sumit Pal Singh and Mihika Yadav respectively.
It was a sweet outing for Mihika because although her top seed went for a toss in the Zeel Desai will take on local favourites and second seeded Sruta Kirti G in the Under-14 girls' title clash. Sruta Kirit took her appointed place with a breezy 6-3, 7-5 win over Babasaheb Aashta in the semifinals.
In a strange irony, three of the four top seeds justified the billing in the doubles clashes, while the Under-14 boys doubles will feature two unseeded duos in Vasisht-Sumitpal and K Rohit-Badola.
