Mamata to inaugurate 'Mati Utsav' tomorrow
Kolkata, Feb 8 : Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate 'Mati Utsav' (Earth Festival) in Panagarh tomorrow to promote cultures and traditions of rural Bengal.
Theme-based activities relating to agriculture, fisheries, handloom, tourism and culture have been incorporated in the festival to help boost rural life.
Nearly 100 stalls have been set up in the festival ground stretching across three acres that will showcase the 'multifaceted sides' of villages.
74 of these stalls will be put up by different government departments linked to agriculture and rural development.
Folk artists from various districts will also participate in the festival.
According to Writers' Buildings sources, painters Suvaprasanna, Jogen Chowdhury and the chief minister herself would paint in the festival and the paintings would be auctioned to raise money that would be donated to the chief minister's relief fund.
Informatively, Ms Banerjee unveiled 'Yatra Utsav' in Barasat during the day.
The opposition Left Front is of the view that the Trinamool Congress government is 'more keen' on 'Utsavs' rather than concentrating on major issues like industry and law and order.
"Only utsavs are on under the new government. West Bengal has no future if we cannot bring in big industries," former Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had maintaind in a television interview on February 6.
