Novel project to save power

Kannur, Kerala Feb 8 : The Kannur district mission of Kudumbashree,a women's organisation functioning under the state poverty eradication mission, would organise a project to save 90 lakh units in a month in the district by reducing the consumption of power in the houses of their members.

Talking to reporters here today, District coordinator of Kudumbashree Premarajan M V said about 3 lakh houses have members of Kudumbashree. So one unit of saving electricity per day would amounted 90 lakhs units in a month on an average.

He said the first phase of save energy project campaign will start tomorrow by organising a quiz, paintings making of posters and other competitions for school,college students and general public to create awareness of the importance of saveing power with the help of Kerala State Electricity Board (KESB).

Around 18000 Ayalkootams(neighbourhoods) organisations are also functioning in the district. After the district level competition,they would organise state-level competitions .

Mr Premarajan said in the second phase, The importance and methods of saving energy would be discussed on February 14 at Ayalkootam meetings.On the same day in all the government offices would be visited pamphlets would be distributed as a campaign to save energy in offices by switching off unnecessary electrical equipment.

He said in the third phase,a team of artistes of Kudumbasree would organie awareness programmes in all the 87 CDS in all panchayaths to spread the message of save energy. He also said Kudumbashree would organise seminars, exhibitions to encourage the use of green energy from February 28 to March 4 in different places in the district.
