Facebook co-founder's husband to run for Congress
Washington, Feb. 8 : A New York congressional hopeful will have some powerful social media allies with him when he runs for the U.S. House next year.
Sean Eldridge, who is planning to challenge New York Republican Chris Gibson for congressional seat in 2014, is the husband of Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes.
Eldridge, who supports same-sex marriage in New York, is the president and founder of Hudson River Ventures, an investment fund focused on the Hudson Valley region, the New York Daily News reports.
The 26-year-old, who is a Democratic donor, married Hughes in June 2012. Hughes, who is an active supporter of President Barack Obama, also owns and serves as editor-in-chief of The New Republic.
Gibson, a Republican, represents New York's 19th District in the Hudson Valley. His constituents backed President Obama over Mitt Romney in November, suggesting an opening for a Democratic candidate, the report added.
