Former Tajik PM detained in Ukraine
Kiev, Feb 7 : Ukrainian authorities have detained a former prime minister of Tajikistan for his alleged role behind an assassination attempt on Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon, Xinhua reported Thursday
Abdulmalik Abdullojonov, 64, will be detained for 40 days until Ukraine receives a request for his extradition from Tajikistan, according to the Prosecutor's Office of Kiev region.
Abdullojonov served as Tajikistan's prime minister from September 1992 to 1993.
He was detained Tuesday at Kiev's Borispil airport after arriving from the US, where he has been living since 1998.
The former prime minister has been on an international wanted list since 1996 for an attempt to stage a coup against Rakhmon during an army mutiny.
Abdullojonov could face up to 20 years in prison in Tajikistan.
