Goa: Panel pulls up cops on drugs probe
By John Edwards, Panaji, Feb 7 : The House committee probing the police and politicians' link with the drug mafia in the coastal state is miffed with the lackadaisical attitude of the Goa police.
Legislator Francisco Pacheco, who is chairing the committee, has decided to summon the director general of police and all senior level officers seeking explanation.
"Police are not cooperating. The committee had sought papers for the inquiry but till date, not a single copy has come to us," said a visibly angry Pacheco.
This, he said, is the sole reason why the committee delayed submitting the findings to the Speaker. "The committee had to table the report in the recently-concluded winter session of the legislative Assembly but police are not assisting us," he said.
The police officers are asked to appear before the committee on February 18 along with documents sought for the inquiry.
The committee was constituted last August to probe the case in depth even as the CBI is conducting a separate investigation. The three-year-old case alleges links between the two Israeli drug peddlers, about 15 suspended police officers and a politician's son.
