Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 6 : The Opposition LDF today staged a walkout from the Kerala Assembly in protest against the Government denial to re-investiage the Suryanelli rape case in which Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P J Kurien was allegedly involved.

In a submission, Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan demanded a fresh probe in the rape case, alleging that P J Kurien has gone scot-free using political influence.

Alleging that Kurien had sexually harassed the girl, he said the investigation agency did not consider her statement while preparing the report.

The girl repeatedly mentioned the name of Kurien from the very begining of the investiagation, he claimed.

He also alleged that Sibi Mathew, who led the special investigation team which probed the rape case, showed undue interest to save P J Kurien.

In his reply, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said the Government will only act according to law.

The Government would take a decision only after receiving a legal opinion in this regard from Director General of Police (DGP-Prosecution).

He said 'the Supreme Court has already given its verdict on the same. Innocent should not be crucified.'
