Kozhikode, Feb 5 : Agents of the public sector Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) in Kerala will observe a 'business bandh' tomorrow in protest against the 'anti-LIC' policy of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre.

Talking to newspersons here, LIC Agents of India (LIC AOI) State General Secretary T K Viswan said the policies adopted by the Centre and the LIC management would jeopardise the interests of the agents, whom, he claimed, were the forces behind the Rs 11,47 lakh crore staggering capital increase of the public sector insurer from a mere five crore in 1956.

The major demands were withdrawal of Insurance Bill, hike in the ceiling of Foreign Director Investment in the sector, appointment of direct sales executive and marketing, among others, he said.

As part of the stir, agents would stage sit-in protest before all LIC branch offices in the state from 1000 hrs to 1700 hrs, he added.
