Mass death of migratory birds baffles forest officials in Assam
Jorhat ( Assam), Feb. 5 : Mysterious death of seventeen migratory birds en route from Siberia has baffled the forest officials in Jorhat, Assam.
Local forest officials have managed to save only one of the wild geese.
"We have recovered seventeen dead birds and alive. It appears a case of suspected poisoning. Investigation is underway and we are trying to nab the perpetrators," said P. Malakar, Divisional Forest Officer, Jorhat.
The forest officials were hesitant to divulge any further information as the matter was still being probed.
This is not the first such incident to befall the region. Earlier, 10 dead bodies of migratory birds were found in the same area.
