The march that started from the Gandhi statue base at Mayo Road was proceeding towards Park Street when it was stopped.
The intellectuals and protesters were marching to submit a deputation at the Park Street police station where the victim had faced harassment after she went there to lodge the complaint of her rape in a moving car.
After protesting at the Park Street crossing later a group went to the Park Street police station and submitted a deputation.
Congress MP and state leader Pradip Bhattacharjee was also in the march but he said he came as a citizen and not as a politician.
The protesters were holding placards like "Justice Delay is Justice Denied".

The prime accused in the Park Street rape case is hiding in Bangladesh, according a report quoting police sources in a leading English daily of Kolkata.
The Telegraph recently quoting unnamed sources reported that Kolkata Police have come to know that Kadir Khan, who was the prime accused in the rape in February last year, is hiding in Chittagong in Bangladesh.
The accused, who was engaged to a Tollywood actress, is keeping in touch with his family in Kolkata and has been using VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) to connect with them, the report said.
Notably, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar recently triggered a fresh controversy over the incident when she said the infamous Park Street rape case in West Bengal was not a 'rape case' but a 'misunderstanding between the lady and her client'.
The 37-year-old mother of two, belonging to the Anglo-Indian community, had said that she was sexually assaulted at gunpoint inside the moving car after she was given a lift in the vehicle from Park Street area in Kolkata on the Feb 5-6 night last year.
After the woman identified a wrong set of people as her tormentors owing to impersonation by the gang, the Mamata Banerjee government first called it a fabricated incident though a woman police official later cracked the case and several were arrested even as Kadir managed to escape.
A lady IPS officer of Kolkata Police, Damayanti Sen, who had cracked the case and said a rape indeed took place, was later removed from her position as the joint commissioner of police (crime) triggering more controversy over the incident.
