Ahmedabad, Feb 5 : Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit the Maha Kumbh Mela at Allahabad city in Uttar Pradesh on Feb 12, reports said on Tuesday. According to reports, Modi will take a dip in the Ganges at the Maha Kumbh Mela.
Meanwhile, the steering committee of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) is expected to declare it's support for Modi as the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate at the committee's upcoming two-day meeting in Allahabad, said reports.
Following the meeting with top Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and BJP leaders last week, VHP leader Ashok Singhal had commented that Modi should be declared as the choice for the PM candidate by the party for the 2014 Loka Sabha elections.
"If people themselves are demanding that Modi should be made the PM candidate then BJP will also have to think about it. Such a thing is happening for the first time. After all, the BJP president himself has said that Modi at present is their most popular leader," Singhal was quoted as saying.
Earlier, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ally Janata Dal (United) had slammed the VHP for supporting Modi as PM candidate of the anti-UPA coalition amid the ongoing conflicts within the allies over the choice of the Gujarat Chief Minister by the BJP.
However, BJP leaders like Ram Jethmalani and Yashwant Sinha openly rooted for Modi as their Prime Ministerial pitch.
